How to Request Unproposed TOO Observations

Some target-of-opportunity (TOO) proposals can be submitted as part of the normal observing cycles. However, these are limited to unpredictable occurances in known targets, equivalent to the "Triggered Observations" for XMM-Newton.

Any genuinely unpredictable events may be observed outside the proposal process, as part of the 5% Director's Time. Data from such observations will not have a proprietary period. If you would like to request an unproposed TOO observation, please e-mail:

Suzaku Manager e-mail

with pertinent details (target name & coordinates, the nature of the event including the anticipated duration, a brief scientific justification, expected count rates etc.).

As a special case, we do not accept gamma-ray burst (GRB) TOO observations through this channel. Because of the short turnaround time required for GRB TOOs, necessiating immediate and intense effort by the operations team, any GRB TOOs will be planned exclusively by the Suzaku Science Working Group.
